Archive of the Month THE PRODIGAL DAUGHTER (1995)

OK, ok, Archive of the Season, if not of the month. Apologies for not having posted the second in this series sooner. I was kind of busy creating new work ... new being a relative concept, from an archivist's point of view.

THE PRODIGAL DAUGHTER, is of slightly more recent vintage than the 1986 SOFT SELL. It was created in 1995 as part of an ongoing collaboration with Slovak dance artist Anna Sedlackova, who plays the part of the eponymous daughter. Friends of the Project Company will recognize American dancers Marta Miller, Robert Sorrentino and Susan McLoughlin - joined by Mimi Cole, a former dancer with the Martha Graham company!

DAUGHTER was first performed following a residency at the (now-defunct) Wagon Train Project in Lincoln Nebraska, and was subsequently performed in Eastern Europe in Prague, Brno, Bratislava, and in the U.S. at Jacob's Pillow, Bryant Park and MassMoCA. The wonderful music is from LAST FOREVER, new and old songs out of the American tradition, written and arranged by Dick Connette.

This edited version was shot by a camera person (obviously one with the shakes) sent by a local community access program. I edited it with a pro who was using an AVID program long before Final Cut was so universally available. Enjoy!
